Unfortunately due to your blogger and today’s walk leader being unwell, details of the walk have been kindly provided by Dave Ty.
In the leader’s absence, Dave T stood in and led walkers on a 9.5 mile circular starting in Ripley, past the historic castle, alongside the Deer Park with the pub stop for lunch at the Joiners Arms in Hampsthwaite before retuning to Ripley. Non walkers enjoyed exploring the lovely spa town of Harrogate.
As you might expect the walk was very wet and boggy underfoot. Nevertheless the weather was kind, the sun was out, visibility was excellent although it was a cold day overall. The deer were out in number as shown in the accompanying photograph in the gallery. However, due to the recent weather condition, the walk leader decided to alter the walk and leave out a section because it was felt that it would be too dangerous to walk along the River Nidd which was swollen and the banks very muddy.
A sight that surprised many were the abundance of snowdrops in the churchyard.
Once again, thanks to Dave T for information and photos.
