Walk Leader – Dave Tyson
Distance – 8.5 miles
Terrain – predominantly flat on bridleways, farm tracks, deciduous woodland
Weather – early drizzle, giving way to a bright, sunny afternoon

New walkers, Sarah, Lorraine, Paula & Gordon we’re welcomed to the group.

With no non-walkers today, 45 walkers began today’s romp around Robin Hood country starting from the lovely Rufford Abbey. Lunch was enjoyed in the newly completed Sherwood Forest Visitor Centre, with the pub stop at Dukeries Lodge in Edwinstowe.  During the afternoon section of the walk particularly, the legacy of this strong mining community could be seen with once barren spoil heaps having been naturalised, giving the landscape some height and interest.  The ford in the road at Rufford Mill provided  entertainment as vehicles splashed through it at speed, and following a short walk back to the abbey, the coach was once more in sight.

Of interest today were an abundance of snowdrops – a couple of skylarks, robins and other small birds. The call of a nuthatch was identified by Dave C. At Rufford Mill mallard, swans and geese were seen, with 2 buzzards being chased by a crow ending the day!!

Dave Tyson was thanked for a lovely walk. Thanks also to all photo contributors.
