Sunday 5th January 2020 – Middleton by Youlgrave – 6 miles
Following the excesses of Christmas the first walk of the new year saw 36 walkers blow away the cobwebs enjoying a lovely walk in the Youlgrave area. Five non walkers were dropped in Bakewell.
Jean, our club organiser, welcomed new walker Debbie – friend of Debbie! Also a fruit basket kindly donated by Brenda and Norman was raffled- £55 was raised for club funds – lucky winner was Diane.
Today’s walk took in the beautiful scenery along Bradford Dale where a Dipper was spotted in flight along the River Bradford. Highlight of the day however was Norman and Andy engaging is in a spot of sheep wrangling – rescuing a sheep caught tightly in brambles! To the sheep’s good fortune, Norman was carrying a suitable tool to cut the brambles and free the frightened animal who trotted off to find his companions hidden amongst the bracken. The heroes of the hour rejoined the group and were congratulated for their good deed.
Today’s lunch stop was in Youlgrave and a short afternoon stroll back along Bradford Dale brought us back to the coach before the winter light started to fade and a light drizzle began to end the day.
David T was thanked for a lovely and varied walk with stunning views across the Derbyshire countryside.
Thanks to all those to have contributed photos for the gallery.
